HELLO

For nearly my entire life, I have experienced some form of abuse. Sometimes, who am I kidding, almost all of the time, I find myself feeling very different than my fellow members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not only was my childhood very different than the average member, but as an adult, I experienced various forms of abuse in both of my covenant marriages. So I have divorced, twice. It is common for members of the Church who experience childhood trauma and/or divorce to feel incredibly uncomfortable at Church, question their faith, and eventually leave the Church. I have found myself in that space many times.

I have discovered that I am not alone.

Latter-day Saint women who have experienced trauma and/or abuse, childlessness, divorce, have been widowed, or have never had the opportunity to be married are prevalent in the Church. Yet, there are currently no programs or supports to meet the specific needs of these women. We have experienced things that can be easy to become confused and feel like there is no place in the Church for us. We can feel left out, like we don’t fit in, and often even the way we live and experience the Atonement and light of Christ is very different than that of our peers. Often, we experience a perceived judgement from our peers. This can make it extremely uncomfortable to stay active.

My mission is to give a safe space for women like me to deepen their testimonies amongst a community of those who know the specific struggles of divorce, trauma, and abuse. I want to give them a safe space to explore the gospel and the atonement in a way that is unique to them. I want to see these women become strong, confident, and validated.
